Here is my new version, I have put the new additions in italics:
Almond Spirulina Banana Smoothie *updated*
- 1 1/2 cups vanilla almond milk (I use homemade; see recipe here) ... I am also liking Califia Farms almond milk when it comes to store-bought
- 2 Medjool dates roughly chopped
- 1 - 1 1/2 tablespoons organic spirulina powder (read about the amazing health benefits of spirulina here)
- 1 1/2 - 2 tablespoons organic, smooth almond butter
- 1-2 teaspoons raw honey
- 1 - 1 1/2 tablespoons hemp seeds
- 7-8 ice cubes
- 1-2 tablespoons granola (for sprinkling on top) ... I like Boulder Granola
Place all ingredients in the blender (best to use a high-powered blender; I love my VitaMix). Blend until smooth. I prefer this smoothie to be a little smoother and less thick, so I blend mine pretty well. The ice cubes are key to keeping it cool.
Here is a post with some other great smoothie recipes on Pure Mamas blog and you can also find some great smoothie inspiration on my "smoothie" Pinterest board.
Photo taken by me on Instagram ... fun fact: I took this photo back in August after a very hot nine mile run and I was pregnant and did not know it.
